Den 14 mars höll SOAF årsmöte på Totalförsvarets Forskningsinstitut, FOI, i Kista. Dagen inleddes med presentationer från FOI och SICS, och även årets exjobbsprisvinnare, Caroline Granfeldt, presenterade sitt exjobb Rotating Workforce Scheduling. Därefter tog årsmötesförhandlingarna vid.

Ph.D. student in Transport science, Analysis of Rail Traffic Systems, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm
There's an open position for a PhD student at the The Department of Transport Science at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
We are currently seeking a well-qualified candidate for a PhD student position in railway capacity analysis. The position is part of a research project funded by the National Transport Administration (Trafikverket), and focuses on using large-scale simulation of timetables using the simulation tool RailSys and optimization modeling. More specifically, the project will develop new algorithms and methods based on a combination of simulation and optimization, to measure capacity-related parameters such as robustness, flexibility and recovery capability in the timetables. The goal is to aid the Transport Administration in analyzing the capacity utilization in particular sections of the rail network. The analysis is important as the Swedish railway market is deregulated, and the same tracks are used by several kinds of trains – commercial passenger trains, freight transport and regional commuter trains – run by several operators.
The topic combines methods and results from diverse areas of transportation science, e.g. transport demand modeling, welfare economics, railway operations, optimization and simulation. Hence, it is an excellent start of a career in transportation, in either the academic or applied sector. The position includes in addition to the time you spend in your own doctoral studies program also duties to 20%, which covers activities in basic education.
The applicant must have a master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field, such as mathematical optimization, statistics, computer science, industrial economics or transportation. Knowledge within all these fields is an advantage but not a prerequisite. The application should describe any knowledge the applicant may have in transport modelling and econometrics/statistics. Applicants must be proficient in English, and be motivated to conduct excellent research. Knowledge in Swedish is not required but it is an advantage, since the project will be conducted in collaboration with the Swedish railway sector and most of the background material is in Swedish.
In the employment decision, we will take into account the applicant’s ability to independently analyze, discuss and document previous research. Transport economics and transport policy are important fields at the department, so an active interest in these topics and societal issues in general is an advantage.

The Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Chile, is seeking to fill academic positions in the areas of Operations Management, Operations Research and Management Science.
Industrial Engineering has a research group in theory and practice of OR/MS with strong international connections to prestigious academic centers. Our faculty serve in the editorial board of the most prestigious journal of the profession including Management Science, Operations Research, M&SOM, Mathematical Programming and Mathematics of Operations Research. Their research has been rewarded by a number of prestigious prizes such as the IFORS Prize, the INFORMS’s Edelman Prize, the Wagner Prize, and several best paper awards. The OR/MS group at the Department of Industrial Engineering also has vast and recognized experience in developing applied research in collaboration with companies and government agencies in the areas of forest engineering, mining, public procurement, scheduling, supply chain management, retailing, matching markets and data science applications.
The Industrial Engineering Department has faculty working in a broad spectrum of areas, including Operations Research, Operations Management, Marketing, Information Systems, Finance and Economics. It is part of the School of Engineering at the University of Chile, which is one of the top schools in engineering and science in Chile, attracting the best undergraduate and graduate students in the region. The department has very strong research oriented masters programs in OR/MS and in Economics, and is currently developing a world-class doctoral program which is attracting talented students from Latin-America and beyond.
Doctoral degree in operations management, operations research, computer science or similar fields.
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Teaching in Spanish is desirable but not a requirement.
Candidates are expected to establish a strong research agenda, interest in applications with impact on government or industry is desirable.
